Pre-Tour: Experience a WOCCU Program in Colonial Mexico 
July 7-10, 2010

This unique opportunity to visit a WOCCU development program is coupled with the charming sights of colonial Mexico. Learn first-hand how rural Mexican credit unions serve their members by visiting local branches, interacting with the credit union staff and meeting credit union members in the area. You'll also experience beautiful Guanajuato, a UNESCO World Heritage city filled with picturesque plazas and historic San Miguel de Allende, home to stunning art and architecture.

Tour Itinerary*
Wednesday, July 7 - Guanajuato, Mexico
  • Participants arrive at the Leon airport and are greeted by a tour representative.
  • Transportation from the Leon airport to the Hotel Castillo Santa Cecilia will be provided.
  • At 2 pm guests will enjoy head downtown in order to experience something way better than a City Tour - a private "Callejoneada". This will be the ideal opportunity to get to know the Historical City of Guanajuato. The tour guide will lead the group through its cobblestone streets and astonishing Historical buildings. Some of the most important buildings of Guanajuato include the majestic "Teatro Juarez", the Cathedral and the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, which was crucial in the History of Mexico's Independence, and, of course, the "Callejon del Beso" (The alley of the kiss) which legend says is one of the most popular in our Country.
  •  After some free time, guests enjoy a private welcome cocktail at the hotel, sipping their favorite drink, enjoying exquisite hors d'oeuvres and listening to a Flamenco Duet performing live for them.
  • Following the cocktail reception, guests are on their own to enjoy dinner or an evening stroll through beautiful Guanajuato - a city recently named the most lit up city in the world.
Thursday, July 8 - WOCCU Project
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • Following breakfast the group will depart for La Atargea in Jalisco to experience WOCCU's work first hand as participants visit with local credit unions and credit union members in the area.
  • Lunch and dinner will be provided.
Friday, July 9 - Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel Allende
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • After breakfast, guests will take a journey through time and history as they visit the village of Dolores Hidalgo where, exactly 200 years ago, Pp.Miguel Hidalgo, Father of our Nation, declared Independence from the Spanish Crown. The group will visit the highlights of the town, local pottery workshops and will enjoy what may be the most exotic ice cream they will ever taste - from the traditional vanilla or natural fruits and pecans, to the unbelievable Tequila, Mole or seafood sherbet!!
  • Guests then head to one of the most amazing Mexican Colonial Cities. San Miguel de Allende, at Guanajuato State. This city was founded back in 1542. It is a charming typical Colonial City, where Architecture stands out, as well as its Cultural environment. The magnificent Pseudo-gothic Paroque of San Miguel Arcangel is an extraordinary representation of this Colonial splendor. San Miguel Allende is World famous as a meeting point for important artists, as well as for hosting International Jazz, gastronomical, musical and cinematographical Festivals.
  • Enjoy a delicious dinner at a charming small local restaurant before returning to Guanajuato.
Saturday, July 10 - Guanajuato to Las Vegas
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • No visit to this region in Mexico would be complete without visiting and tasting the great products of the Mexican Vineyards. Guests will have a captivating presentation and walk around one of the most
    famous wine companies of the region, in which you will get to know the process of wine making from the moment of obtaining the grape juice after harvest, till the final step of bottling and labeling.
  • Guests will walk through the caves, located 25 meters underground followed by a wine tasting which is the perfect end to an extraordinary day!
  • Following the vineyard tour, the group will travel to Leon to catch their flight to Las Vegas.  Please keep your passport and tourist card handy.
  • Upon arrival to Las Vegas, transportation to the MGM Grand Hotel will be provided.

Post-Tour: National Parks & Route 66
July 15 -18, 2010

Travel to nearby Utah and Arizona to take in the best the West has to offer. With breathtaking views of towering cliffs, colorful canyons and valleys and hundreds of miles of trails to explore, you'll enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in the U.S. Stops include Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, Lake Powell - the second largest manmade lake in the U.S. - and of course the Grand Canyon. Then follow the nostalgic Route 66 back to Las Vegas.

Tour Itinerary*
Thursday, July 15 – Las Vegas, Zion National Park & Bryce Canyon
  • Depart the MGM Grand Hotel and Las Vegas by traveling north across the desert with a rest stop in St. George.
  • The group will then continue to Zion National Park for sightseeing and optional hiking.
  • Lunch will be provided at Zion Lodge and there will be plenty of time to use the free shuttle system to explore Zion Canyon at your own pace.
  • In the late afternoon, the group will depart Zion and travel to nearby Bryce Canyon.
  • After checking into your hotel, join the group for an evening of western food and entertainment at Ebenezer's Barn & Grill. 
Friday, July 16 Bryce Canyon & Lake Powell
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • Start the day touring Bryce Canyon National Park; the Hoo Doo formations and bright colors are visually stunning and inspiring; there will be time to see the best viewpoints and walk the rim of this natural amphitheater.
  • Depart Bryce Canyon and travel south with a lunch stop in Kanab, also known as "Little Hollywood" due to the many movies & television shows filmed in the area. Enjoy a delicious lunch and some western movie fun at Frontier Movie Town.
  • Travel to Lake Powell National Recreation Area and check into your lakeside hotel.
  • Take a Scenic Cruise on Lake Powell and enjoy the emerald waters among the stunning red rock canyons.
  • Return to your hotel with the evening free to relax, swim, walk the shore and have dinner on you own.
Saturday, July 17 Monument Valley & Grand Canyon
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • Depart Lake Powell and enter the Navajo Nation arriving at historic Goulding's Lodge where you will meet your Navajo guide and board 4 wheel drive vehicles for a Jeep Tour of Monument Valley.
  • Visit various scenic points made famous in the hundreds of movies and commercials filmed in the valley; you will also learn about the Navajo culture and soon understand why the valley is considered a sacred place.
  • Enjoy a Navajo lunch at Goulding's Lodge.
  • Depart and travel south with a rest stop at historic Cameron Trading Post.
  • In the late afternoon, enter Grand Canyon National Park for sightseeing along the South Rim including Desert View, Yavapai Point, Mather Point and Grand Canyon Village.
  • After a full day of sightseeing, check into your hotel just outside the park in Tusayan and join the group for dinner.
  • Following dinner, enjoy some free time before returning to Grand Canyon for Sunset Overnight Grand Canyon.
Sunday, July 18 Grand Canyon, Route 66 & Las Vegas
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before departing Tusayan and the Grand Canyon for Las Vegas.
  • The group will travel south with a rest stop in Williams; then head west on I-40 following the path of old Route 66.
  • Enjoy a nostalgic stop in Seligman and step back in time to the heyday of Route 66.
  • In the afternoon, arrive in Kingman for lunch and touring of the Route 66 Museum.
  • Continue west to Laughlin, then turn north as you return to Las Vegas for drop
    off at the airport or your hotel.
